Chabad, Hillel Hold Bone Marrow Donor Drive

June 2007

UW Sophomore Logan Zinman’s dad was diagnosed with a blood-related cancer.  He needed a bone marrow transplant and a match needed to be found quickly.  Miraculously, the Gift of Life (a bone marrow registry) stepped in and matched him up with a benevolent donor.  Within one year of being diagnosed, his doctors declared that he was clear of the illness.

Thankful to the organization that saved her father’s life, Logan organized a Bone Marrow Donor Drive together with volunteers from Hillel, Chabad, and Colleges Against Cancer.  On April 25, the students set up shop at the Bucky State Fair on Library Mall, hoping to attract many to register for the registry.

And they kept coming!

As the day progressed, many stopped by to simply swab their inner cheeks for cell samples.  More than 100 individuals registered!

The motto of the Gift of Life is a well known quote from the Talmud, “One who saves one life, it is as if he has saved the entire world.”  We all hope and pray that all of mankind should be healthy and well.  Yet, for all those that need a speedy recovery, hopefully at least someone will be helped through the students at UW and their Gift of Life Bone Marrow Drive.
