On May 3, twenty-five women gathered at the home of Janice Gratch to benefit the Hilde L. Mosse Gan HaYeled Preschool Scholarship Program.
Gan HaYeled, sponsored by the Madison Jewish Community Council, educates more than 100 children year-round and provides scholarships for low-income families of all faiths. In the 2006-2007 school year, MJCC granted a total of $13,916 in scholarships to 13 children.
Scholarships are based solely on financial need and range from $300 to $3,700 per child. There is an increasing need for scholarships, especially for families who need assistance for Gan HaYeled’s extended care program. Currently, there are only enough funds to grant scholarships for the basic 9:00 a.m to noon program.
Tzedakah Connections is an enjoyable way to support the local and international agencies and programs funded by the Madison Jewish Community Council/The Jewish Federation of South Central Wisconsin.
At each Tzedakah Connections event, women bring a dish to pass and a $25 contribution to the beneficiary agency or program. They then enjoy visiting and eating for a good cause.
All women in the community are invited to attend the next Tzedakah Connections event on July 26th at the home of Bunny Spitz. The July event will benefit the Ethiopian National Project, a program of the Jewish Agency for Israel that funds educational programs for the impoverished Ethiopian Israeli community.
