“Your going to make my summer a great one!”
June 2007

While the Camp Shalom scholarship recipient who wrote this letter did not use perfect grammar, his sentiments are right on.  This letter could have been written by any of the more than 200 camper slot scholarship recipients for Camp Shalom’s 53rd summer. The camper is correct that most in not all of those receiving scholarship assistance could not attend camp if “people like you” didn’t donate the funds.

More than $101,000 has been awarded this summer; the most in Camp Shalom’s history.  The average family income of those receiving scholarship support is barely $14,000.  As we reported last month, MJCC took a leap of faith that the funds would come in.  As we go to press, we’re still short some $6,000.  While Camp Shalom will never turn a child away due to family finances (we’ve kept that promise since 1954), we do need to raise that last $6,000.  It’s clear we need every donor to the 2006 scholarship fund to contribute the same if not more to this year’s fund.  We will also need others to join with us as Camp Shalom scholarship sponsors.  If you are aware of others who might be interested in becoming a Camp Shalom Scholarship Corporate, business or foundation donor, please contact Steven Morrison at MJCC, 278-1808 or by email: morrison@mjcc.net.
