Weiss to Receive Young Leadership Award

Dan Weiss will receive the Miriam Singer Sulman Young Leadership Award at the Annual Meeting of the Jewish Federation of Madison on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 4 p.m. at the Irwin A. and Robert D. Goodman Jewish Community Campus in Verona. Named in 1975 in memory of Miriam Singer Sulman, a much admired and dynamic young Jewish Federation of Madison leader, this award enables the recipient to attend the Jewish Federations of North America General Assembly which Dan will attend later this month.

Dan was born in Chicago and lived there until his teenage years. The remainder of his childhood was spent growing up in a small business family in southern Wisconsin. This experience helped him build a foundation for understanding behavioral finance and personal money management, and led Dan to study Finance and Business Law at UW-Whitewater.

Dan moved to the Madison Area in 2005 and currently lives in Verona with his wife Carey, and newborn daughter Leyora. Dan is also co-founder of LBW Wealth Management. Outside of time spent with his family, friends, and work, some of Dan's favorite activities involve the outdoors, horses, travelling, and volunteering within the Madison community.

His involvement with the Jewish community includes the Jewish Federation of Madison Board Member, Outreach Committee Chair, Marketing Committee member, SPF Committee member, Nomination Committee member, FRD Committee member, Jewish Business & Professionals Roundtable Committee member, and Matzah Balls team member. He is a YJP (Chabad affiliate) Board Member, and formerly a member of Temple Beth El's Social Action Committee.

Dan strongly believes that if you want to want to see a stronger more unified Jewish Community then it is on you to be active and to strive to create that environment. His Jewish pride and identity are very important to his belief system, values, and overall who he is as a person. His job as a human being is to leave this world better than he found it. That starts in your own backyard, with your own people.

Dan admires the advantage the Madison Jewish Community has by being large enough to have an impact on the entire Madison Community (and Jewish Madison), and yet small enough to develop tight bonds with a large number of Jewish individuals residing in the area. The collaboration and potential for even further collaborative efforts among Jews and their organizations in Madison allows for a dynamic and vast experience for current and future Jewish generations.
