Digital Technology: Enhancing and Disrupting Communication Between the Jewish Generations
A Conversation with Dr. Jeffrey Schein

Shaarei Shamayim is thrilled to welcome Reconstructionist educator, Dr. Jeffrey Schein, to our community.
Struggling over battles with your kids about texting and i-phones? Feel like your life is ruled by email? Wish you had a handle on how to limit the use of technology in your life even as you appreciate its many benefits?

Dr. Schein will join us for our intergenerational service led by Rabbi Laurie and Aviv Kammay on guitar and will do teachings throughout the service. After the service, we have arranged for childcare so parents can stay and talk with him about how technology both enriches our lives and pushes us into behaviors we might not ordinarily choose.

Teens are encouraged to attend — we would love to hear their voices and contribute to this conversation.

Dr. Schein was ordained by the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. For twenty years he served as director of Jewish education for the Reconstructionist movement and directed the masters program in Jewish education at Siegal College in Cleveland. He is presently the director of the Covenant Project’s Text Me: Ancient Jewish Wisdom Meets Contemporary Technology.

9:30 a.m. Service; 11:15 a.m. Kiddush lunch and discussion. Celebrate Shabbat with us at an intergenerational service led by Rabbi Laurie and Aviv Kammay on guitar, with Dr. Jeffrey Schein doing teachings throughout. Childcare during the 11:30 a.m. discussion will be provided.
