“Local Food Can Transform Our Community”: We know the farm-to-table movement is a hot trend, but building a local food economy is a powerful community tool to foster family-supporting jobs, create markets for sustainable family farms, and provide a climate solution at the end of your fork. Helen Sarakinos, REAP Food Group's executive director, will talk about REAP's mission to transform community, economy, and lives through the power of good local food. REAP Food Group has worked for over 20 years to connect consumers in Madison and Dane County to the wealth of sustainable growers and producers in southern Wisconsin to make good food, grown well, accessible to all. REAP also works in partnership with Madison Metropolitan School District to transform school lunch with locally sourced sustainable foods and Farm to School curriculum for some of Madison's most food-insecure populations. Come hear how you can be part of the movement to foster a strong regional food economy.
This Winter Farmer’s Market and Brunch is presented in partnership with the Food, Faith, and Farming Network and Harvest of Hope, a Wisconsin family farm crisis fund. These nonprofit organizations have supported Wisconsin family farmers since the 1980s.
