Introducing J-READS Virtual Book Club!

Are you looking for a way to stay connected this winter without leaving your house? Are you looking for a good book to read? Are you interested in having stimulating conversations with your peers? Starting February 2023, we are launching a virtual book club. Every 2 months, we will pick a book with a Jewish theme and get together over Zoom to discuss it. This is a great way to stay connected with your local Madison Jewish community whether you travel south for the winter or don’t like to go out in the cold.

Our first virtual discussion will be Thursday, February 23, from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Central Time, via Zoom.

The Zoom link will be sent to you immediately in a confirmation email after registering. Please check your junk folder if you do not see it.

Our first book will be All Other Nights by Dara Horn. There are copies available from the local library system, or you may purchase a copy (you can find them online at thriftbooks.com or amazon.com or elsewhere). Please contact Marni at engage@jewishmadison.org or (608) 442-4077 if you are unable to locate a copy on your own, and we will get you one. We will be picking our second book, for April, at the February meeting.

You can learn more about the book here: https://www.darahorn.com/book/all-other-nights

“How is tonight different from all other nights? For Jacob Rappaport, a Jewish soldier in the Union army during the Civil War, it is a question his commanders have already answered for him — on Passover, 1862, he is ordered to murder his own uncle in New Orleans, who is plotting to assassinate President Lincoln. After this harrowing mission, Jacob is recruited to pursue another enemy agent, the daughter of a Virginia family friend. But this time, his assignment isn’t to murder the spy, but to marry her. Their marriage, with its riveting and horrifying consequences, reveals the deep divisions that still haunt American life today...”
