Caring for one another is a cornerstone of Jewish life. That care does not end after someone dies.

Jews traditionally care for the deceased from the moment of death until burial through ritual acts of shomrim (guarding the body), tahara (ritual cleansing of the body), and then we place earth on the grave as our final act of care for the deceased.

Madison does not have a Jewish funeral home to ensure these mitzvot are done. Instead, community members provide these acts of caring to one another as volunteers.

We invite you to join the circle of care by learning more about these sacred rituals and how the Madison Jewish community is working to ensure that they are available to all members of our Jewish community.

Please join us on Sunday, November 6, to learn more about how these mitzvot are provided to the Madison-area Jewish community.

WHERE: Beth Israel Center, 1406 Mound Street
