The Temple Beth El Kesher Israel Committee brings Israeli Rav Joshua Weisberg and Ethiopian teen Brhan to visit our community via Zoom. Central to the presentation is a 20-minute short film in which Brhan speaks of her life in Ethiopia and then in Israel. The event will begin with a short introduction and d’var Torah by Rabbi Jonathan Biatch. Rav Weisberg will then introduce the film. After viewing, the floor will be open for Q&A. Finally, Brhan will treat us to an Amharic musical rendition.
Rabbi Mark Cohn of Temple Emanuel, Winston-Salem, NC, offered this recommendation about the program: "I do believe [this program] deepened people’s connections and understandings of Israel. We met with Brhan Vorko. It was a wonderful new opening for a lot of our congregants on the reality of the Ethiopian experience (in coming to Israel and living there today). With the story of Brhan, I found, in speaking with our folks afterwards, they could relate as humans and as Jews as the stories are … well, universal and particular."
