Madison Hadassah’s August Walking Adventure - Pewit's Nest & Waterfalls in Baraboo
Get exercise and meet others on Madison Hadassah’s Walking Adventures – casual walks exploring interesting locations in and around Madison. Adventures end with nosh at nearby fun cafes. Chocolate included. Members and nonmembers are welcome.
While most of our walking adventures are close to Madison, we chose Pewit's Nest near Baraboo for August because it's an ideal place to stay cool in the heat of August. This State Natural area has a dramatic gorge with a stream and waterfalls running through it where walkers can explore the gorge, wade and/or swim.
10:45 am Park at Menard’s parking lot in Baraboo (along Hwy 12) to carpool the last 2 miles. Parking at Pewit’s Nest is limited, carpooling is strongly recommended. Look for a blue Subaru with a bike rack.
11:00 am Meet at parking lot at entrance to Pewit’s Nest Natural Area
We’ll start with an easy, flat ½ mile walk from the parking lot through beautiful forest to a sandy beach at the base of the gorge and waterfalls.
Walkers can choose between:
- An easy, but short walk and/or wading along the stream near the base of the gorge.
- Or a slightly more difficult short uphill climb, then walk along the cliffs and forests overlooking the gorge. Hike down at the opposite end of the gorge and swim or wade in the stream
Afterwards, we’ll drive to the Village Cafe in Baraboo for lunch.
