An afternoon of readings and discussion with writer Esther Dischereit, Fall 2013 Distinguished Max Kade Writer in Residence at the UW-Madison the author (in English and German)
Jewish German writer and performer Esther Dischereit is the Professor of Language Arts at the University for Applied Arts in Vienna. Her published poems, prose, and essays include “When My Golem Opened the Door”, “Lessons in Being Jewish”, and “With Eichmann at the Stock Exchange.” Dischereit’s texts reflect the experience of being Jewish, the daughter of a survivor, and a “non-majority” German in numerous ways. Her installation “Before the High Holidays” commemorates the fate of Jews expelled from Dülmen/Germany in 1939.
