“Mussar” comes from the Hebrew word for “turning aside” or “paying attention,” and has come to mean the Jewish science and art of personal human character development.

Led by Rabbi Biatch, the eight-session course, “Seeking Everyday Holiness: The Jewish Art of Human Character Development,” will enable participants to look at their own character and soul, to determine better ways of interacting with the world, and then to commit themselves to that new way of behavior. This personal exploration of how one can understand oneself in deeper ways will examine the character traits of Humility, Patience, Order, Equanimity, Honor, Truth, Moderation, Responsibility, and Trust, and will help each participant perceive areas of personal growth and development.

The materials and direction come from The Mussar Institute, a nationally recognized group that provides guidance to those who wish to increase their appreciation of Jewish behaviors that help to improve our world. Weekly writing assignments, spiritual practices, and weekly group discussion are essential components of this course. Class size is limited to ten particpants; details below.

The subsidized fee for this course is $56 for TBE members and $80 for non-members.

Please register and pay either online at http://bit.ly/tbemussar, or to Ross Brown in the Temple office. Contact Ross at (608) 238-3123 or school@tbemadison.org. Please note the class requires a minimum of six students, and will be limited to the first ten (10) registrants.
