From Miriam the Prophet to Marsha P. Johnson: How We Dance At A Time Like This
Both the Jewish and the Queer communities have a long history of surviving and thriving against all odds. This Pride Month, guest speaker Rabbi Micah Buck will talk to us about ways that these two often-overlapping communities have drawn on the animating power of joy and bold creativity.
From Torah and Rabbinic texts through ancient and contemporary LGBTQ+ stories (and, of course, queer and queerly-interpreted Torah texts!), intentional joy shines through at key moments in our collective stories. We will explore some of the tools that have carried these communities through, and examine ways that Jewish joy and Queer joy enhance and strengthen one another.
Rabbi Micah Buck (he/they) serves as Keshet’s Director of Education & Training, where he supports organizations across the spectrum of Jewish life to build communities in which LGBTQ+ Jews and our families can thrive. They have a BA in Jewish, Islamic, and Near Eastern Studies from Washington University in St. Louis, and an MA in Talmud and Rabbinic Literature and rabbinic ordination from The Jewish Theological Seminary.
