The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism is partnering with the Center for Common Ground in their nonpartisan Reclaim Our Vote campaign. The Center for Common Ground is a national nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization fighting voter suppression. Its mission is to empower underrepresented voters by reaching out to eligible voters of color, especially those in rural communities in six targeted, primarily Southern states. This postcard-writing campaign has proven to be highly successful in getting unregistered and deregistered voters back on the voting rolls so they may cast their ballots.
This campaign reaches outside our local community to states where help is most needed. The TBE Civic Engagement Action Team is planning other action opportunities before the election, many targeting voters here in Wisconsin.
How it works:
The Religious Action Center’s postcard kits are available to order here. Each kit contains 30 postcards, mailing addresses, scripts, and everything else you need, aside from the stamps, which you provide. The order form has a link to a short training video, which instructs you to print your own labels and order postcards separately. Please disregard these instructions. The pre-assembled kits from the Religious Action Center contain all these items.
On August 4, we will gather on Zoom, each with our own postcard kit. Have your colored pens or pencils ready, and your favorite beverage or snack. We’ll fill out our postcards while we visit, reconnect, and hear about other opportunities to get involved. You can make a difference!
How to prepare:
1. Order your postcard kit here by Tuesday, July 14. It can take up to 2 to 3 weeks to receive your postcards. The Religious Action Center is asking for an $18 voluntary donation for each kit. Please donate if you can, but don’t let this be a barrier to your participation.
2. Register for the August 4 postcard party by Friday, July 24.
3. Purchase 30 postcard stamps here.
Once you have registered, you will receive more information from us about the details of writing the postcards. If you have questions, please contact Erica Serlin (ericar.serl@gmail.com) or Jane Taves (jtaves3@gmail.com).
