Please join us for an environmentally themed service and a “Tree of Life”–themed Oneg Shabbat, honoring the earth and revealing what we can do to protect our city’s trees and improve access for everyone to the cool shade, clean air, and public health benefits that trees provide.

We will hear from Melanie Askay, who coordinates the Tree Canopy Collaborative (https://daneclimateaction.org/Initiatives/Tree-Canopy) for the Dane County Office of Energy and Climate Change.

Melanie will describe how the Collaborative is working to maintain, protect, and expand the public and private tree canopy—the area shaded by trees—across Dane County, with a particular focus on ensuring equitable access to trees.

Trees are an important resource to protect urban areas from the effects of climate change such as extreme heat and flooding, as well as contributing to clean air for residents.

The Collaborative emphasizes the role of partnerships throughout Dane County, including with faith-based organizations like ours. The Social Action Committee is working on ways that we can contribute to these efforts, and we hope you will join us. Stay tuned!

A special Oneg Shabbat will follow the service, featuring a "Tree of Life" theme with local food items and the opportunity to talk with the Social Action Committee about our congregation’s environmental efforts and initiatives.
