The Harry Drexler Hillel Scholarship Fund was established by Dan and Nicole Drexler in memory of their Great Uncle Harry Drexler. The Fund is created as a tribute to Harry’s zest for life. Harry was one of seven kids raised in Chicago. He was a lover of poetry who, with his brother, best friend, and confidant, Lloyd Drexler, created the company Atlas Steel. He was married to Jo Drexler but had no children. In 1960, Lloyd and Harry pooled some of their capital and founded a family foundation – “The Fund for Enlightment.” Dan and Nicole are very passionate about charities involving, education, health care, and all things Jewish. They continue the great work of their family Foundation “The Fund for Enlightment.” The Harry Drexler Hillel Scholarship is for an incoming freshman to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The scholarship is a four year award and will go to the same student over those four years. The student must maintain a 3.25 GPA. Preference is for a Jewish student who is involved in a Jewish youth group, temple, or other Jewish communal leadership activities while in high school. The selection of the student will be made by the Hillel of UW Madison scholarship committee according to established procedures within the Hillel Foundation. The number and award amount is determined by the scholarship committee.
