The High Holy Days is a time of reflection on our past and, if warranted, pledging to make changes in our lives. But what if we could erase completely memories from our past and start again? Would any of us do this? Would we want to forget everything? Come to a special screening of “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (2004), a feature film that takes these concepts to an extreme conclusion. The film stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. Here is a description of the film: When their relationship turns sour, a couple undergoes a procedure to have each other erased from their memories. But it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with. MPAA rating R for language, drug and sexual content. After the film, join in the discussion on the meaning of remembering.

9:15 pm — Ice Cream Social With a Build-a-Sundae Bar
10 pm — Selichot Service

This unique service happens only once a year and is designed to help you prepare for the coming High Holy Days. We will be changing the Torah covers to white ones during this service. RSVP for the evening appreciated but not required to Aleeza at engage@tbemadison.org, let her know how many in your party, your favorite sundae toppings and where you stand on the chocolate vs. vanilla ice cream debate.
