The Jewish Federation of Madison (JFM) Executive Committee recently shared with the Camp Shalom and broader Madison area community information about a traumatic incident last summer in which a minor camper was harmed by an adult counselor. While the matter was promptly reported to Child Protective Services and investigated by law enforcement and CPS, we recognize the pain this has caused and our responsibility to respond with humility, accountability, and decisive action.
As part of our response and commitment to strengthening safety, governance, and oversight, JFM has initiated an independent external review of Camp Shalom policies and operations, is partnering with Safe Harbor Madison and Sacred Spaces to enhance training and reporting resources, and has implemented leadership transitions, including the recent resignations of the JFM Executive Director, Camp Shalom Director, and JFM President.
The full community letter, including resources and reporting options, is available on the JFM website. Please click here to read the full update. For specific questions or support, please email campshalomsupport@jewishmadison.org.
